The plastic peripheral strumming of Guitar Hero isn’t over after all as Activision’s Dan Winters affirms it’s just taking a break from the spotlight, it hasn’t ended.
They’ll ”continue to sustain the channel” and keep the brand alive, but they’re not making a ”new one for next year, that’s all.” Guitar Hero ‘ended’ along with 500 jobs.
Back in February Activision announced 500 positions within the publishing empire would be snipped, and news broke that Guitar Hero and its floundering sales had caused the previous cash-cow IP to fall out of favour with the Activision big bosses.
”Actually, just to clarify, we’re just putting Guitar Hero on hiatus, we’re not ending it,” Winters explained. ”We’re releasing products out of the vault - we’ll continue to sustain the channel, the brand won’t go away. We’re just not making a new one for next year, that’s all.”
Are you glad to hear Guitar Hero is still hanging on?
