In 2005 it was overhauled after developers acknowledged many faults with its design. Now the fanfare is over as Galaxies went out with a bang as Rebels and Imperials squared off.
The decision to switch off the MMO came from the arrival of EA and BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic, which officially swings its doors open next week, December 20th.
”On behalf of the Star Wars Galaxies team, thank you. We have truly enjoyed getting to know you - our dedicated players - over the years. From in-game events to Fan Faires, we appreciate your continued loyalty and support. It would not have been possible without you,” posted SOE.
Star Wars Galaxies supported many ambitious features including player built and run settlements on planets, which unfortunately became ghost towns as time went on. Originally it was made difficult to become a Jedi as special requirements had to be met by players, but that changed in 2005.
