Console versions of Battlefield 3 sport ‘scaled down’ versions of multiplayer maps to better accommodate the 24-player cap, whereas PC can enjoy 64-players.
There is an exemption however for aircraft in Battlefield 3 which are granted a much wider area for airspace, compared to ground units going ‘out of bounds’.
This revelation came from the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo. Console versions won’t be able to enjoy the full breadth of online maps from DICE as they seem worried having only 24 players over such large areas broke up the flow of action.
Planes will be given more or less full access to the maps however because of their unique nature. Interestingly the CQC melee isn’t as near instantly fatal as most other first-person shooters. Instead DICE has opted for the actual trading of punches and throws.
Battlefield 3 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC later this year.
