The gameplay in Sins of a Dark Age seem pretty unique. Player join an online team consisting of one Commander and a small group of Heroes, working together to accomplish a specific scenario goal.
Players who choose the Hero role will face the enemy on the front lines and play an action-RPG style game, earning experience, unique abilities, and game changing items. Players who choose the Commander role essentially play the game as a real-time strategy game commanding those human-controlled heroes, all the while building the base, giving orders to the Heroes and positioning defenses. The Commander also trains units to support the human Heroes. The Commander role also allows players to call upon larger-than-life ‘Realm Powers’.
Acording to Ironclad co-founder Blair Fraser, “Sins of a Dark Age is something totally unique in the strategy genre. Like Sins of a Solar Empire, which blended 4x with real-time strategy, we’ve taken our favorite elements of traditional RTS and action RTS and added our own twists and turns that result in a completely new and unrivaled strategy experience.”
Sins of a Dark Age will also include leaderboards, stats tracking, online replays, spectating, kill-cam moments and plenty of post-release content in the form of Heroes, Commanders, Factions, Units, Maps and Skins, Sins of a Dark Age is free-to-play strategy gaming elevated to the next level.
The game will be released in 2012 for PC as a free-to-play title. Players can register to play the beta at the official site here.
