Electronic Arts co-founder Joe Ybarra, who designed or produced some of the most classic titles in history including M.U.L.E., The Bard’s Tale, Seven Cities of Gold, Starflight, John Madden and Dr. J and Larry Bird Go One on One, has started his own development studio, Joe Got Game.
His first project, which will later be posted on Kickstarter, is Shackleton Crater, which will be a ”fast paced turn-based” economic moon-based building sim taking place in the year 2050. Players will find themselves put ”in a command position within the future UN lunar expedition effort, LunaCorp. The primary mission is for you to create, grow and sustain a colony on the surface of the Moon.”
Players will have to deal with first creating stable habitats that will eventually become self-sufficient. At that point, players rely less on the Earth for resources and more in self-sustaining structures. As this goes on, more and more exploration of the Moon is performed. For instance, players may find themselves looking for the tallest peak on the dark side of the Moon for an interstellar communications tower.
Ybarra is aiming for a Spring 2014 release date for the game on PC and tablet. Players can check the game out here.
