Gas Powered Games is currently funding its next game, Wildman, on Kickstarter, and it seems the studio really needs the money, as founder Chris Taylor has confirmed earlier reports this evening that the developer laid off a “significant” portion of its staff, roughly 40 employees.
According to Taylor, Gas Powered Games ”had to slim WAY down to conserve cash reserves.”
This follows the shutdown of Age of Empires Online by Microsoft, ending downloadable content development and reducing maintenance to a skeleton crew. It’s probable this drained Gas Powered Games’ funds.
On the positive side, Wildman has raised $239K of its $1.1M goal so far.
