It is due to be released on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on the 23rd August 2013 in Europe, the 20th August in North America.
According to Take 2, this game takes place ”in 1962, one covert group stood as the first and only defense against outside threats. From the shadows, The Bureau defended the world, protected humanity and erased the truth.”
Update:
”The Bureau’s initial charter was to investigate a series of incidents that the government thought were all Soviet infiltration and maybe a precursor to a nuclear war. Turns out, those incidents were of a far more extraterrestrial origin,” according to Take 2’s Alyssa Finley in a statement, ”The Bureau has to quickly adapt from their original charter to become the kind of organization that could identify alien threats, find ways to turn the alien technology against them and cover up evidence of what happened so that the American public could go on with their lives and not go into a panic about being invaded by aliens.”
The game is also no longer a first person shooter. Instead, it’s a third person, squad-based tactical combat title. The player will be taking on the role of Special Agent William Carter. As with the turn based XCOM: Enemy Unknown, gamers will bring customizable agents into missions, and just like the strategy title, agents cannot be resurrected if they die.
Carter has a special ability called Battle Focus which puts the action into slo-mo so he can issue orders to his squadmates, who can be controlled during battle as well.
