Developer Darkling Room has added another game to the Crown horror adventure series, turning the trilogy into a quadrilogy. Trilogies are so last three games ago. The Last Crown: Blackenrock is the newest addition.
It will release this year and takes place after the 2008 original, The Lost Crown. Blackenrock takes place before the events of The Last Crown: Haunting of Hallowed Isle, also in development.
To become a ‘quad’ - ditching the uncool mantle of ‘tril’ - a third (but fourth!) game is in simultaneous development. The current quadrilogy will conclude with The First Crown.
If this development schedule is anything to go by this Crown series is damn terrifying. ”We often get questions when the next Crown game will be released, as does the developer. First of all we are thrilled that there is still a big following out there looking forward to the new Crown games,” said CEO Erik Schreuder of Iceberg Interactive.
”However, because of a synchronization of certain efforts, the developer has opted to develop the now three remaining games simultaneously, which means it absorbs a lot of time and planning is difficult, Darkling Room being a tiny studio. With this gameplay video we wish to reassure everyone that games ARE in production and progress is being made.”
The Crown series will be coming to Steam, continued Schreuder, ”and we’re currently very busy with putting The Lost Crown onto the platform as soon as possible - and aim to announce a launch date for it in the near future.”
The Last Crown: Blackenrock, The Last Crown: Haunting of Hallowed Isle and The First Crown are due in 2014.
