Kickstarted fantasy 4X game Worlds of Magic is wizarding its way to Steam Early Access this September 11.
The game, inspired by classic title Master of Magic, features all the tactical combat and empire building that a 4X fan expects, along with a whopping seven planes of existence to explore.
Interesting choice of music in the trailer there. In Worlds of Magic you choose a custom Sorcerer Lord to play from one of eight races, load him up with a selection of over 400 spells and head out into a procedurally-generated fantasy landscape to beat other Lords up and steal their lands. Interestingly, for you D&D fans out there, the game uses the D20 OGL as the basis for combat - that’s usually reserved for RPG’s, but it’s definitely a solid, well-established core to build your spellcasting combat on system on.
It’s a good time for fans of 4X games, whether you’ve got a taste for sci-fi or fantasy. Galactic Civilizations 3 is creeping ever closer, Age of Wonders 3 has a new expansion on the way, and there’s intriguing titles like Worlds of Magic popping up all over the place. Along with the isometric CRPG it’s a genre you wouldn’t have expected to be so prominent just a few years ago.
You’ll be able to grab Worlds of Magic on Steam for $39.99 this September 11.
