Jagex has confirmed that both Wheeljack and Knock Out will be joining free-to-play online brawler Transformers Universe as playable warriors. They will follow in the footsteps of fellow rustbuckets Chromia and Flamewar, who are coming to the game this October.
It’s something of a premature announcement from Jagex, who were forced to respond after news of the new additions leaked onto the net earlier this week.
“It’s regrettable that such recognisable faces from Transformers lore should prematurely appear in the public domain without the rightful fanfare they deserve,” said Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard with a palpable air of irritation. ”On a positive note we’re delighted that they’re already resonating strongly with both ourexisting players and the wider Transformers fan-base.”
For those uninitiated with Transformers lore, Wheeljack (above left) is an Autobot who favours swords, while Knock Out (right) is the Decepticon’s medic. Not sure how field medicine helps giant robots, but there you go.
There’s no information on the new guys’ skills, equipment or special attacks, but the developer promises more information soon. There’s more information about upcoming content in the latest community blog post, including a new ‘Recon’ game mode and matchmaking fixes.
