Pencil Test has partnered up with publisher Versus Evil to bring its stop-motion animated adventure game Armikrog to PC, Mac and Linux in early 2015.
Created by Mike Dietz of Earthworm Jim fame and Ed Schofield, the man behind The Neverhood, Armikrog was Kickstarted last year to the tune of $974,000.
A good portion of that money’s been put to use in hiring an impressive roster of voiceover talent, including Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Michael J Nelson (Mystery Science Theatre 3000), and Rob Paulson (Pinky from Pinky and the Brain).
Armikrog stars a space explorer named Tommynaut and his blind talking alien dog called Beak Beak, who find themselves stuck in the titular fortress after crash-landing on an alien planet. The game blends stop-motion clay animation with graphical tech to deliver a “unique look and an in-game aesthetic so genuine, it draws you in,” according to Steve Escalante, GM of new publisher Versus Evil.
He’s not wrong. Stop-motion isn’t a technique you see that often in video games. One to keep an eye on when it drops early next year.
