Verse Publications have entered into a partnership with Mastertronic to bring its point-and-click adventure game, The Shopkeeper, to PC this October via Steam.
The developers describe The Shopkeeper as a fusion between ”the Twilight Zone, classic LucasArts adventures, and the Antiques Roadshow”. It’s a short-form multi-path game, designed for several play-throughs. The game looks like a graphic novel in style, drawn by comic artist James Brothwell, with the narrative being co-written by director Tom De Roeck and veteran RPG designer James Wallis.
Tom De Roeck, co-writer, verse publications, says, “After working closely with Mastertronic at the Radius festival, it was a no-brainer to sign with these guys. I think The Shopkeeper is in the best hands!”
Andy Payne, CEO, Mastertronic, says, ”We are incredibly humbled to be working with such a talented and creative group of games developers. We all love Lucas Arts games and I was brought up on The Twilight Zone. Adding in some ’˜Antiques Roadshow’ touches completes what has to be the holy trinity of adventure games.”
”Writing The Shopkeeper was a delightful challenge,” said James Wallis, co-writer, verse publications. ”For a narrative designer, something like this is refreshingly different – a maze of twisty little passages, linked in clever ways that make repeated play-throughs essential.”
The Shopkeeper will be coming to PC, Mac and Linux this October. Verse Publications didn’t say when it would exactly release in October, but since we’re halfway through the month already, it should be pretty clear what day they’ll release on. We’ve contacted them to see if we can find out more.
