With Titanfall’s first DLC pack, Expedition, on the horizon, developers Respawn have released a blog post on their official website that discusses new map War Games in detail.
War Games takes place inside a virtual reality training simulator, with the developers aiming to create the perfect playground for the game’s parkour wall-running and mech battles.
”When brainstorming ideas for the first Titanfall DLC map pack,” writes developer Jason McCord, ”the concept of a level in the training mission simulator got a lot of people excited. Designers imagined a level that was smooth, clean and abstract - a perfect place to design easy-to-read battle spaces and wallrun paths.”
Describing the initial concept as a”parkour playground”, McCord also wanted to give Titans a good arena for some brutal showdowns. ”I wanted to use the clean simulator style to give Titans a more competitive field for Last Titan Standing. On the outskirts of the level, paintball style fields are designed clutter-free to make enemies easy to spot and paths easy to discern. Titan spawn points push players into these areas, while also allowing flanking Titans to travel through the center of the map.”
Titanfall’s Expedition DLC is expected next month, available for $25 as part of the Titanfall DLC Season Pass or $10 individually on PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. War Games is one of three maps players can look forward too, with Swampland and Runoff the others.
