Scrolls is the next game from Minecraft developer Mojang, and after a lengthy period in development marked by Bethesda getting snotty and litigious about the use of the world ‘scrolls’, it’s finally on the way.
Currently playable through an open beta that’s been running since July last year, the collectible card battler will be released in its final form in “late November”, according to Mojang’s Owen Hill.
“The guesstimate is late November, but we’re not going to release it until it’s ready, if you know what I mean,” Hill told Touch Arcade. Srolls will release simultaneously on PC, mobile and tablet devices, but coming out of beta won’t mark the end of development on the game.
“‘Final release’ just means we’re taking it out of beta, but we want to continue development after that.” producer and artist Henrik Pettersson explains. Expect more cards, more spells, and more content in general.
As for those wondering how Mojang’s much publicised buyout by Microsoft will affect the game, Hill says fans don’t need to worry about the company stepping in and ramping up micropayments; “We will be owned by Microsoft at some point, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to instantly poke in and go, ‘You need to change the way this is monetized.’”
