EA’s “On The House” program for Origin has been a way for the publisher to offer popular and/or well-praised games to players free for a limited time. Now on the menu as of today is the often praised, but highly underrated Jade Empire: Special Edition.
Recently, Origin accidentally listed Jade Empire as free. Now we know why: it was just premature.
Jade Empire is a fantastic martial arts-oriented action-RPG from the original Xbox days. It’s set in the Oriental Far East and developed by Bioware (Mass Effect). The game saw a special edition release on PCs in 2007, a couple years after the original release of the game. Jade Empire was highly rated and beloved by critics and players alike, but for one reason or another never caught on the way Mass Effect or Dragon Age did.
The EA On The House program has been running since late March of 2014. In the past, the program has featured popular titles, including the likes of Dead Space, Dragon Age: Origins, and Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 among many other classics and hits. Previous titles have had run times of about a month and a half, so we can probably expect to see Jade Empire running free into early January.
If you haven’t checked out Jade Empire and feel like giving yourself a Christmas present for the low, low cost of free, then check out the EA On the House deal here.
