Codemasters’ racing game Dirt 3 is the latest game to finish stripping the remnants of Game or Windows Live from its system, swapping Microsoft’s gaming service for Steamworks.
Actually, it’s better than that. Anyone who owns the game on PC will be upgraded to the Complete Edition for free, giving them access to the game’s full roster of DLC.
“First up I want to say sorry for just how long it has taken to move DiRT 3 to Steamworks and I would also like to thank you all for keeping up the pressure on us to move it over,” writes a Codemasters representative.”Every day I have over a hundred notifications on my Steam account, there are threads thousands of comments deep about it and countless Tweets and Facebook messages - while you’d think it would be the kind of thing that would bug the hell out of me, you’d be wrong.”
If you’ve already got Dirt 3 in your Steam library, check it and you’ll see it’s been upgraded to the Complete version. The only issue you might run into is that your old GFWL saves will now be incompatible. An unfortunate necessity, according to the developer.
Anyone with a boxed PC copy of Dirt 3 or a version bought over Games For Window Live can also change it over to Steam. There’s a guide on how to do this right here.
