Three Fields Entertainment, the studio set up by former Criterio founders Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, is making a ”spiritual successor” to the Burnout games, set for release on PC and consoles.
Before that, the company tweeted that its first game would be a ”multiplayer sports game” set for release next Spring, with the Burnout-inspired driving game to follow on afterwards.
”What sort of driving game you ask? A spiritual successor. Speed. Traffic. And Crashing. Lots and lots of crashing. #ShinyRedSomething”,” the company went on to tweet. That’s a reference to ‘Shiny Red Car’, the codename for the first Burnout game. Three Fields avoids mentioned the particular brand-name, because Ward and Sperry left publisher EA (who own Criterion and therefore the rights to the IP) last year.
Burnout was a unorthodox series where the focus was firmly on crashing into things at high speeds rather than getting the best lap time. At its best it was ludicrous amounts of fun, so I’m looking forward to seeing what Three Fields has in store.
