Spooky mansion with eerie music and a sense of foreboding? Check. Protocol Games is looking to scare us in an ”old-school inspired” third-person survival horror called Song of Horror. They’ve started a Kickstarter.
We control up to 16 characters that have ”been plunged, throughout time, into a nightmare for which they are not prepared.” The horror isn’t just creepy but quite lethal with perma death.
The camera in the game is ‘automatic’ and will ”back away from you, turn to face you, play tricks on you, and seamlessly blend with each other” as we explore. While Daniel Noyer is our lead character, there are up to 15 other characters we can control who are close in some way to Daniel. Not all are likely to survive by the end, teases Protocol Games.
”Each character has his/her own defined background, personality, views and opinions. They will each react differently to what they see and experience. Which of them are still kicking and which are gone will affect how the story is told.”
The game divides into several chapters with a different location in each. We’ll be stalked by ”an eldritch, primeval horror which is known only as “the Presence”.” There isn’t any traditional combat in the game, and you never know what might be important or not.
Check out the Song of Horror Kickstarter for more. There’s 29 days left to raise €75k. There’s also a Steam Greenlight campaign currently running.
