Unfortunate news today as Take-Two Interactive has confirmed its 2K office in Shanghai, China will be closing, following the cancellation of the Borderlands Online, claming that the game “would not yield a favorable return on investment.”
The report came out of GamesIndustry.biz with whom a representative from Take-Two confirmed the shutdown. The studio and office hosted 150 employees and was working on Borderlands Online before the cancellation. The representative announced that this closure “will not affect [Take-Two’s] financial results.” The company recently released an earnings report that showed the company is actually doing better than expected with a net income of $54.7 million this year.
The representative further assured that this will not affect other Asian-based studios and offices, such as the Cheng Du or Singapore locations.
“We are working with affected staff to identify other opportunities within the company where possible,” the company offered.
