We haven’t heard much from Daybreak Game Company (formerly SOE) regarding its ambitious MMO EverQuest Next for a while, which is why the game’s senior producer Terry Michaels felt the need to pen a blog post explaining the current situation to concerned fans.
Daybreak is now shifting priority from closed-beta building game Landmark, a testing ground for some of EverQuest Next’s core mechanics, over to the MMORPG itself.
”We still want and need your feedback on what we’re making in order to make sure both Landmark and EverQuest Next are as amazing as we all want them to be,” writes Michaels. ”You can fully expect updates and hotfixes to Landmark as we continue with this development process; they are simply going to be on a less regular schedule than you guys have been accustomed to over the past year or so.”
”Landmark and the player community are very important to us and will continue to be essential in the development of EverQuest Next, exactly as we’ve promised from the very beginning.”
While work is really starting to get underway on EverQuest Next, Michaels is keen to point out that that doesn’t mean the game is anywhere near ready. You shouldn’t expect to see it until next year at the earliest. The experimental nature of the work the team is doing also means they ”cannot commit to any dates”, so expect things to be rather quiet for a while longer.
That said, Michaels does promise updates whenever big milestones are reached, and says the team will be doing more Landmark Livestreams on Twitch over the coming months. Watch this space, in other words.
