Spectate mode is a nifty options in MOBA games. With it, you can watch your friends kick butt or get wrecked, watch pro players and learn some tips and tricks, or just take a load off and enjoy a game without the stress of losing or winning. Unfortunately, it would appear that players of Heart of the Storm aren’t getting that kind of freedom anytime soon according to Heroes of the Storm and StarCraft II game director Dustin Browder.
The Blizzard team lead recently went on Twitter to offer answers on a ton of players’ burning questions. Quite a few matters were addressed, such as the future possibilities of skins, planned balancing for the game, and sub-roles for heroes among other things. One of the questions specifically wondered at the possibility of a spectator mode in future patch. Browder had this to say in reply:
Want that so bad too. It is not coming soon I'm afraid. https://t.co/eh0RcPWBrh

Kind of an unfortunate thing really. As much as the player base might enjoy the addition of a spectator mode in the game as well as certain members of the Heroes of the Storm team, Browder included, there doesn’t seem to be any plans for the addition in the near future. Nonetheless, probably better for Browder to be up front with it rather than make promises on something that doesn’t have a chance of happening any time soon.
Oh well, we’ll just have to play the game ourselves in the mean time. Fingers crossed that Browder’s interest means this will be a topic of discussion in the future.
