Gamers who expected a Might and Magic: Heroes VII DVD in the $99.99 Collector’s Edition of the game were disappointed to find only codes for it and the soundtrack. Ubisoft apologized for the misleading photo which depicted discs; the description itself stated that there would be codes.
Ubisoft released a statement of apology that read: ”Ubisoft regrets any confusion created by the marketing materials from our Might and Magic Heroes VII Collector’s Edition. We understand that some customers in North America were not aware the Collector’s Edition delivered digital versions of the game and soundtrack. Ubisoft apologizes for any frustration and disappointment resulting from these items being in digital format vs. physical format.”
The publisher also offered refunds for dissatisfied customers. ”We are accepting complete refunds from any dissatisfied customers and will be providing a compensation plan of one complimentary digital PC game for consumers that have already purchased the Might and Magic Heroes VII Collector’s Edition from the Uplay shop in North America. Affected consumers will be able to pick one game of their choice from a selection including Far Cry 4, Assassin’s Creed Rogue, The Crew, AC Rogue, Toy Soldiers: War Chest Hall of Fame Edition and Zombi.”
There are several reasons why extravagant Collector’s Editions are offering codes instead of discs. One is that the cost of production for the Collector’s Editions make it cheaper to just include a code, and in the past, discs were damaged by the oversized or metal items in the edition. The $249.99 Halo 5 Collector’s Edition also only has a game code.
