Mirror’s Edge has quite the accolades. It’s blown people’s mind with its absolute grace and beauty, but what really sets it apart is its fluid on-the-run parkour puzzling through it’s amazing environments. A new indie developer Game Over is attempted to capture that same fluidity of that game play in their new Kickstarter for Fail Safe.
Fail Safe tells the story of Isra and her robot companion XJ as they explore a lost world and uncover its secrets. The game is a first-person adventure with parkour elements and the inspiration of Mirror’s Edge is quite evident throughout images and videos of the game. The art style has an ethereal beauty that speaks to inspirations like Avatar: The Last Airbender or Journey in it’s lush color and vibrancy.
Game Over is looking for $80,000 to fund this project and is already about a quarter of the way there with 18 days left to go. If successfully Kickstarted, Game Over will seek a PC, Linux, and Mac release first with the possibility of a PS4 and Xbox One release as well. For what it’s worth, games like Mirror’s Edge, that take the first-person perspective and do something beautiful and, more importantly, functional with it are rare. Fail Safe looks like it’s on the right track to being something to stir similar feelings while exploring it’s own unique and mysterious world.
