A week ago I covered team-based shooter Squad, a new Steam Greenlight project from the team behind popular Battlefield 2 mod Project Reality.
Oh, look at that, Offworld Industries has now announced that the game’s been successfully greenlit. You can now look forward to some 50 versus 50 squad-based combat.
”On behalf of the entire team we thank you all who have voted us,” write the developers, ”and being part of the excitement that helped get Squad Greenlit. Be sure to keep up to date with us on our main website, and social media pages. We will be showing off more exciting stuff in the very near future.”
Powered by the Unreal Engine 4, Squad features large-scale battles with a focus on teamwork and squad tactics. While the front-line troops head into combat in nine-man squads, other players can take on a support role, providing them with build fortifications and strong points. They can also keep an eye on the team’s supplies, organizing air drops or convoys to carry gear to the front-line.
There’s a whole host of other simulation mechanics planned, all of which are detailed on the game’s Steam page. It sounds like a real rival to games like Arma 3, though I imagine you’ll need to find a bunch of like-minded allies for your team in order to get the most out of it.
We don’t have a release date for Squad just yet, but I’m pretty intrigued to see how it develops. Judging by how quickly it was greenlit, I think it’s got a real audience. We’ll have more on the game as development continues.
