Jagex Games Studio has announced that their classic MMO RuneScape will be celebrating its 15th Anniversary in 2016 with an updated graphic engine and a new quest designed by the game’s founders Andrew and Paul Gower,
According to the studio, ”A new game client technology that will take RuneScape’s visuals to a new level of fidelity will also be introduced, together with four quests that conclude the epic God Wars storyline that started in 2013. A new skill – Invention – will be introduced to the game, allowing players to personalize weapons and armor, and make them more technically advanced.” The aforementioned “Gower Quest” will be released in the Spring.
Old School RuneScape, a retro version of the MMO which retains the look and gameplay of the 2001 version of the game, will also be enjoying 15th Anniversary content, with three events spread out through 2016. Old School will also be hosting an eSports event based on the recently released Deadman Mode.
“To reach this incredible 15-year anniversary milestone is astonishing for everybody working on RuneScape, especially with a continued resurgence of players. This is testament to our loyal, passionate, and growing community, that the development teams at Jagex can continue to tell new stories within the world of Gielinor,” stated vice president Phil Mansell in the press release. “Next year will be another big step forward for the franchise as we introduce exciting new features, technology and new games across multiple platforms.”
