Former Maxis developer Bryan Shannon, a member of the team that worked on the ill-fated 2013 SimCity, has been creating content for Cities: Skylines on the Steam Workshop since he was laid off in the studio’s recent closure.
Now he’s set up a Patreon to continue his modding work, asking for donations for each building model that he creates for Colossal Order’s excellent city builder.
Shannon doesn’t expect to turn modding into a full-time occupation – the 15-30 hours each building model takes to finish isn’t exactly conducive to long-term self-employment - but the Patreon support should help tide him over until he manages to secure a new job.
“I don’t intend on getting “Notch” rich off of any of this,” he writes. “All I want to do is be able to afford my coffee, buy my girlfriend a dinner, and pay all of my student loans off.”
You can see a couple of examples of Shannon’s work over on the Steam Workshop.
