Hotline Miami 2 kicked open the doors to our PCs in March of this year as the mercilessly brutal sequel to Dennaton Games and Devolver Digital’s first fast-paced pixelated assassin action game. Dennaton announced just today that they will be beta testing a level editor for the game starting next month.
Featured in a post on their blog, the developer went into detail on what will and won’t be allowed during the beta test. The beta will be available only on PC via Steam, the reason given being that the forum allows for the best collection of data and feedback. There are future plans for Mac and Linux, but consoles won’t get the editor.
Players don’t have to sign up for the beta or anything like that. Anyone who owns a copy of Hotline Miami 2 will seemingly be able to access the editor on the release date. There will be no Steam Workshop support at the start, but there are plans to open it up later as a means to allow players to share levels.
The beta release date is set for December 10th and will run until early January before a final release. It’s going to be interesting to see what dastardly brutal gauntlets players will come up with.
