Hollow Knight is a hand-drawn animated side scroller in the Metroidvania style of hits like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night or, more recently, Axiom Verge. It surfaced as a Kickstarter from development studio Team Cherry and more than surpassed its goal of $35,000 at $57,138. A trailer was just released showing off some gorgeous footage from the game.
Players take on the curious and cute little Hollow Knight as he ventures down into the ruins of an ancient civilization. Going into the darkness, Players will find monstrous and relentless monsters and beings driven into madness. Hollow Knight will discover a vibrant and mysterious subterranean world that spans an enormous system of tunnels, roads, and caverns, gaining strength, skill, and the unlikeliest of allies.
It’s rare to see game these days that takes the approach Hollow Knight is taking. Much of the sprite art looks simple, yet stylish, elegant, and charming and the backgrounds look absolutely fantastic. Standard editions are vailable for pre-order now at $15.00. There is a deluxe “Explorer’s Edition” that comes at $25.00 and includes the Hollow Knight, digital copies of the sound track, world map, the Hollow Knight comic, and the illustrated instruction manual. Finally, a $45.00 buy will get you Beta access on top of the Explorer’s Edition.
You can find out more about the game and pre-orders at the Official Website. Dates for the beta or final release of Hollow Knight have not been set at this time.
