How far can a game go to deliver a powerful message and convey something more than entertainment value? That’s always seemingly been one of the forefronts of the upcoming game, That Dragon, Cancer. Today, Numinous Games released a new trailer and gave their personally intense project a release date.
That Dragon, Cancer is an art game based around the real-life events of game directors Ryan and Amy Green, whose son Joel was diagnosed with terminal cancer only a year after birth. The game takes an artistic journey through the emotional and strenuous experience of raising their child the best they could. Joel unfortunately passed away in March of 2014, but the game lives on and is nearing completion.
That Dragon, Cancer is an emotional labor of love from head to toe. It’s safe to say it won’t be something everyone will get into or care for, but it is something deeper than most average games can even hope to offer in context alone. That Dragon, Cancer is slated for official release on January 12, 2016.
