Red Hook Studios co-president and designer for grimy, Gothic dungeon-crawler Darkest Dungeon Tyler Sigman has warned customers of an illegal version of the game apparently available to buy on the Windows Game Store.
Sigman tweeted; ”If anyone has a contact at Windows Game Store, please share. Somebody is scamming DD by selling it (illegally) on there.”
Head to the store and you’ll see a Windows 8.1 version of Darkest Dungeon available for just $3.99, somewhat lower than the current Steam price of $22.99, with a download size of just 20MB. The description is notably poorly written too, a jumble of broken English that’s even harder to read than my news posts.
The rip-off seems to have been published by one Balaji Chowdary, who’s also been responsible for illegal versions of Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, and Watchmen: The End is Nigh. Not too hard to work out that the version is not legitimate then, but I suppose it’s easy enough to miss if you’re not looking particularly closely. I guess. But really, come on.
Sigman says he and the Red Hook team are ”trying to stop it before it gets worse”. If you want to try out the early access version of Darkest Dungeon, buy the real deal from Steam or Humble. As of this post, the illegitimate copy is still up for sale.
