Snowbird Games’ sandbox pirate game Caribbean! has left the Early Access cocoon on Steam and is now available in its beautiful butterfly final form.
Well, sort of. The game’s ready to go, but Snowbird recently explained that several planned features didn’t make it into the release version, and will follow on as free pieces of DLC.
As if anyone knows what a ‘final release’ game is any more anyway. Features on the way include multiplayer, female character models, full cities and more, while naval sieges are on the way in the first update.
Caribbean! is an open world sandbox game in the vein of Mount & Blade (indeed it runs on the same engine), with the same mix of third-person swordplay and political back-stabbery. There’s a bit more of a mercantile feel here, with the ability to choose the path of a merchant and businessman trading goods and earning piles of cash.
During launch week you can pick up the game via Steam or GOG for 15% off. If you own Mount & Blade: Warband or Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword you can get another 10% discount. Here’s some of what you can expect in the core game at launch:
