Obsidian Entertainment’s Kickstarter-funded roleplaying game, Pillars of Eternity, has passed the 500,000 mark in sales, which includes the original backers.
“Every one of these milestones, from the completion of our crowdfunding campaign to the game’s release and beyond, is a surreal moment when you consider where this journey began,” stated Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart in a press release, “Pillars of Eternity has been a life-changing experience for me, and for everyone involved in its creation. Knowing that over half a million people have gotten to share in that is both flattering and humbling. I want to deeply thank all of our fans and supporters. We can’t wait to share what we’ve got next for the world of Eora.”
Almost 74,000 backers raised nearly $4M in crowdfunding in its original Kickstarter campaign.
Pillars of Eternity’s success has led to a two part expansion, The White March; the first part was released this past August. Other attached projects include a tabletop card game due for 2016 called Lords of the Eastern Reach, and a series of ebooks based on the license. A sequel is also in the works.
The game earned a 9.0/10 score in GameWatcher’s original review.
