Kwalee has announced its upcoming top-down action game The Precinct is set for release on May 13th for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
The Precinct is all about navigating the brutal day-to-day of police work in 1980s America. You’ll have to deal with gang wars, white collar crime, and police corruption all in the name of justice. This involves a variety of different tasks such as patrolling the streets of Averno City, stopping all manners of crimes such as parking violations, drug deals, and bank robberies.
It’ll launch across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, with digital and physical console releases planned for the same day. Microids handles the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S releases, which come in standard and limited editions. The limited edition features the full game with a steel book, as well as the game’s soundtrack and a physical map of Averno City.
Developer Fallen Tree Games describes it as a “love letter to classic cop movies”, and that there are sandbox elements present. Presumably this means randomized crimes and locations, with multiple ways of stopping them.
Playing the game from a top-down perspective also gives you a better look at Averno City. Since you’ll regularly be in shootouts, car chases, and helicopter pursuits, The Precinct’s wide angled view helps you to get an overview of each situation you’re faced with.
Other features include destructible environments, dynamic weather with a day/night cycle, and an in-depth backup system for those more intense jobs you take.
In addition to the digital release, Microids is also releasing The Precinct will release on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on May 13th, 2025.
