Shallow Space has proudly announced that their massive new patch, UPDATE 4 is now live. The 3D space combat real-time strategy has been running in Early Access and offers a great deal of new fixes and features in this latest build of the game, most prominent of which is scanning.
According to the update announcement, scanning will allow players “to scan a piece of sector furniture to know its contents. Any ship in the game can use the ‘Deep Scan’ ability to advance the scanning of an asteroid cluster or gas cloud by ensuring the position of the formation is such that the centre of the cloud is enveloped in the scan radius.”
With scanning, players can detect hidden enemy vessels in asteroid fields that may be waiting in ambush. On the flipside, not scanning an area and being ambushed can put your ambushed vessels in a “surprised” status for 15 seconds, which inhibits them from firing or jumping to safety. Scanning will deliver a whole new dynamic to combat and many other aspects of the game.
In addition, there are a ton of additional sound, UI, and game play tweaks and bug fixes to smooth and heighten the experience of Shallow Space. You can see the full patch notes here.
