I’m a sucker for weird Japanese games about making friends and building things, so I really should have played Little King’s Story. The game released on the Wii back in 2009 to very positive reviews, but since it was a Wii title that wasn’t made by Nintendo and didn’t have “party” in the name, it was largely forgotten. But now it’s coming to PC!
Little King’s Story has you in control of–you guessed it–a little king. Actually, you’re just a kid who found a magic crown, but that crown imbues you with the power of charisma, which is really all it takes to be an effective politician. You’ll take command of a down-on-its-luck kingdom and try to raise them once again to greatness.

You take your villagers with you and lead them to adventure as you expand the kingdom. Your denizens will alternately build buildings and do battle with monsters as you command them in real time. If things go especially well, you might even find a cute princess to rescue and settle down with, because that’s totally how relationships work.
For a fan of Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing, this is the neatest thing on Steam since Stardew Valley. Which really wasn’t long ago now that I think about it, but still, there aren’t many of these types of games on PC. Little King’s Story will be available August 5.
