The Star Wars Battlefront 3 fan remake has been given the go-ahead by Valve to release the game on Steam. Frontwire have been rebuilding the abandoned Star Wars Battlefront 3 project (created by TimeSplitters studio Free Radical Design) for some time now, the Russian developers have even renamed the project to Star Wars: Galaxy in Turmoil.
“It is with great pleasure that as of today I am able to officially announce that Frontwire Studios has officially signed a distribution deal with Steam/Valve for the game Galaxy in Turmoil, said Tony Romanelli, President of Frontwire Studios. “After ongoing discussion between Valve Representatives and myself, Valve/Steam has agreed to ship Galaxy in Turmoil to it’s millions of users for FREE.”
“On a final note; People have been expressed their concern as of late, saying they expect us to get a Cease & Desist from Disney. I’ll be honest – I’ve had mild concerns myself from time to time. However Valve clearly lacks that same concern. By agreeing to publish Galaxy in Turmoil, Valve is assisting us in growing and ensuring the longevity of the Galaxy in Turmoil project and community as a whole.”
A lot of commenters online have expressed their concern that the game will almost certainly be pulled by Disney, but Romanelli seems to be nonchalant about the entire problem. Just because Valve have decided to publish the game does not mean Disney will allow this project to take place. While the project may be completely free for people on Steam, it would be very easy for Disney to simply sent a cease and desist letter to Frontwire, ending the entire project.
