Things that can destroy someone’s bank account: Brexit and a Steam Summer Sale. Okay, the first one doesn’t really count because the lasting effects will damage the UK’s economy for at least four years, but a Steam Summer Sale will most likely only hurt you until your next paycheque.
Steam Spy have analysed the number of sales during this wonderful period, breaking down the bestselling games and how much money Valve made from their summer sale. The numbers can be off slightly, but if these are indeed accurate then it looks like Valve made $236 million. This is a lot higher than last year’s summer sale which ‘only’ reached $160 million in sales.
Here are the bestselling games of the Steam Summer Sale. You have to remember Limbo was available for free during the sale, hence why the number of copies ‘sold’ are significantly higher than anything else on the list.
• Grand Theft Auto 5 – 227,111 sales
• Rocket League – 256,797 sales
• Doom – 260,172 sales
• Left 4 Dead 2 – 282,580 sales
• Dead by Daylight – 286,966 sales
• Garry’s Mod – 349,877 sales
• Age of Empires II – HD Edition – 373,651 sales
• Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – 485,694 sales
• Payday 2 – 526,380 sales
• Limbo – 1,128,836 sales
