I like adventure games. I like weird, surrealist settings. And I think animals are pretty cute. Night in the Woods will probably be right up my alley! And that’ll be soon!
The indie adventure’s Twitter account made the announcement earlier today, adding “You might be thinking ‘hey isn’t fall when all the big games get released? aren’t you worried about getting lost in the shuffle?’ To which I’d say ‘well, that’s kind of up to you now, ISN’T IT?’. And then I’d elbow you in the ribs jokingly and we’d laugh. And then we’d look at eachother and share a quiet moment, and we’d both know we’d silently made a date for this fall.” You and me, Night in the Woods. I think we’ll get along pretty well.
This is the first I’d heard of the game, but a quick look at the Kickstarter page reveals a nifty art style and unique tone. It’s a 2D adventure about a cat named Mae who returns to her hometown, hangs out with her loser friends, and confronts mortality and stuff.
The game hit Kickstarter way back in 2013, quadrupling its $50,000 funding goal by the end. This fall is more than a bit later than its estimated delivery date of January 2015, but hey, games are hard to make. At least it’s coming out.
