Cuphead, an upcoming platforming game, will be delayed from its original release this year, to mid-2017. According to the game’s Art Director Chad Moldenhauer, the decision was tough, as “throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact”.
What a vision to be sure. Cuphead is one of the most unique platformers to date because of its art style. The art and design is based on 1930s cartoons, with the majority of elements taken from Disney and Warner Bros. shorts at the time. The humor and style of the game is in clear homage to old cartoons, and just as enjoyable to watch. Hopefully to play as well, of course.
Cuphead will be coming out on PC and Xbox One. The new release date will definitely allow Studio MHDR to take advantage of the extra time to improve its game and release the gem they hope it to be.
