We are going to guess you forgot about Abzû (don’t worry, we forgot about it too), the underwater exploration game. Developed by new studio Giant Squid, a studio founded by Matt Nava (the art director of Flower and Journey), the game was first announced at Sony’s 2014 E3 Press Conference for PC and PlayStation 4.
Since being announced two years ago, there hasn’t been a lot of news about Abzû aside from the game’s publisher changing to 505 Games. Now we finally have a release date for the game – August 2nd for PC and PlayStation 4. The developers have shown off a short trailer just to whet your appetite (get it? Whet kinda sounds like wet…).
Here’s what you’ll experience in Abzû: ”ABZÛ is an epic descent into the depths of the sea where players explore beautifully rendered ocean environments with fluid swimming controls. In ABZÛ, the user embarks on a nonviolent, 3rd person adventure with no fail states so users can’t die. They can only explore and discover new things about the underwater world as they progress along the emotional spectrum of the game.
Personally, I’m just happy the game is coming to PC. Hopefully someone can mod in VR support for the game, because it looks absolutely stunning.
