Studio Wildcard’s popular Survival of the Fittest mod for ARK: Survival Evolved, which debuted back in August 2015, has evolved into a standalone free-to-play MOSA aimed at eSports competitive gameplay.
The original mod proved to be such a huge success, the studio decided it would make for a great game on its own. ”Following the success of the game mode, tournaments, and feedback from the community, SotF has been refactored into its own competitive game including four new modes, a robust ranking system, massively boosted performance, cosmetic-tiered rewards, lobbies/parties/on-demand-matchmaking, and constant iteration,” said Studio Wildcard in the announcement on Steam.

Players will form clans called “Tribes”, which can support 1-6 players, from “free for alls” (deathmatches) to team-based contests. Tribes can play in unranked and ranked play, as well as a special eSports ranked leaderboard called the ”Survivor League”, which promises cash prizes for the very top ranked players. ”Dedicated eSport rankings, matchmaking, reward, and upcoming Tournaments make ARK: SotF readily accessible to all players and after each month we’ll be awarding over $50,000 to the Top-10 Ranked Players in each of the four game modes, referred to as the ‘Survivor League’!”
ARK: Survival of the Fittest is technically in Steam Early Access and can be downloaded free here, but the game is already fully featured with over 75 dinos and a full array of weaponry to employ. Matches are already being waged with full competitive ranking. More info can be found at the official game page here.
