Competitive ARK spin-off is getting rolled back into the main game
It’s been a weird ride for ARK: Survival of the Fittest. The battle-oriented take was initially just an internally-developed mod for the survival themed ARK, eventually becoming a public total conversion and then a stand-alone game client. Now it looks like it will no longer be a separate product.
Report: Lawsuit may force closure of ARK: Survival Evolved
Some people may remember that a few years ago, Dungeon Defenders II developer Trendy Entertainment was under fire for outrageous work conditions, including 10-12 hours of unpaid overtime and claims that company president Jeremy Stieglitz was bullying and verbally threatening employees, paying female employees less and practising “extreme” sexism, along with general mismanagement. Stieglitz was subsequently ousted, and eventually joined Studio Wildcard, the developer of the smash dino-hit ARK: Survival Evolved. Unfortunately, his presence on the team may threaten even the very existence of the game.
ARK: Survival of the Fittest becomes free-to-play, standalone MOSA
Studio Wildcard's popular Survival of the Fittest mod for ARK: Survival Evolved, which debuted back in August 2015, has evolved into a standalone free-to-play MOSA aimed at eSports competitive gameplay.
Mod tools and new 'Survival of the Fittest’ arena mode released for ARK
Studio Wildcard has launched the ARK Dev Kit, a streamlined version of the Unreal Engine 4 editor which allows players to create their own content for the developer's dinosaur-heavy sandbox game, ARK: Survival Evolved. To celebrate the release of the game's mod tools, Wildcard has also kicked off the ARK: Survival Evolved Modding Contest. You can win some Alienware gear by creating the best maps, modes, structures and items. Full rules are here.
