Epic Games’ take on the successes of League and Dota was always intended as a free-to-play title, but so far it’s only been accessible by a small, select group of players. As of today, however, Paragon is entering open beta, free for anyone who wants to try out the third-person five-versus-five multiplayer game.
While the game was first playable to the public in early access this past March, this is the first time it’s seen a wide release. The free-to-play allows players to purchase upgrade paths for the various heroes, as well as cosmetic items and boosts to experience gains. The developers issued an official blog post thanking the players who’d supported the game so far, and welcoming newcomers to the title.

“To all of the new players, both on PC and PS4, who are joining us today - welcome! We’re so glad to have you. As you experience the first MOBA that truly uses 3D space, it is our sincere hope that you’ll find Paragon as fun to play as it has been to work on for all of us here at Epic Games. We’re anxious to hear all of your feedback as we continue to work to improve the experience for everyone.”
You can get started with Paragon at the official website. The Unreal Engine 4-based game looks to differentiate itself from others in the genre through its good looks and third-person action. It’ll be interesting to see if it can carve out a space in the market that can compare with the kings of the MOBA.
