Attack on Titan is a certified phenomenon in the anime world, and it’s surprising that the series has taken this long to get a full-fledged video game adaptation. Wings of Freedom will be the series’ first game on home consoles and PC, faithfully adapting the story of the anime to an interactive setting, and there’s a feature length gameplay video today showing a full level in action.
Massive, humanoid Titans have overrun the world, and humanity is forced into walled settlements to protect themselves. The Scouts, equipped with rocket packs and grappling hooks, take the fight to those grotesque opponents. Wings of Freedom is under development by Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force, and the influence of their Dynasty Warriors series is clear.
The gameplay video is from the level “Mikasa Ackermann - The World the Girl Saw.” Getting around the city with rockets and grappling hooks looks pretty awesome, and combat with the Titans looks fast, fluid, and fun. And, naturally, ultra-violent.
Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom will release on Steam, PS4, PS3, Vita, and Xbox One on August 26 in Europe, and will hit North America (minus the subtitle) on August 30. We’ll have a full review in time for the game’s European release.
