If you thought that the dream of the Rube Goldberg device game died with the Incredible Machine series, then I’ve got some good news. The contraption-building concept has been quietly trucking along thanks to the Crazy Machines franchise, and the latest entry just got a new teaser trailer and a release date that’s not far off.
Crazy Machines 3 will release on October 18 for PC, Mac, and Linux. The developers promise the greatest, most advanced contraption simulation ever created, building on systems and operators ranging from electricity and explosions to lasers and the wind.
There’s an editor for parts, letting you change items to one of 15 materials and adding a dash of color for stylistic flair. You’ll be able to upload your creations to the Steam workshop and download the community’s best to see what other mad inventors have been up to.
It’s always been surprising to me that more games hadn’t picked up where the Incredible Machine left off, so I’m interested to see how Crazy Machines 3 turns out.
