Fans of Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead can look forward to a third season of the episodic series. The developer confirmed the new season by revealing that all of the decisions the player makes in the previous episodes will be taken into account without compromising the multiple endings of Season 2.
Despite the wildly divergent endings of Season 2, Telltale will not be taking the cheap way out by beginning with a scene that takes all of them into account. CEO Kevin Bruner explained, ”From a role-playing, interactive storytelling point of view, it is not from the bag of tricks that we’ve ever shown anybody before. The way that we’re dealing with and validating and retaining all those different playthroughs is really cool and unexpected and, I think, pretty innovative from the storytelling point of view.”
The game will be accessible for gamers who played both seasons and those coming in for the first time. ”How do we go back and make sure all Walking Dead fans can get in while still keeping all of our storylines going? I think where we’re landing with the story for Season 3 does a really good job of both of those things,” said Bruner. ”It allows people who maybe haven’t people who maybe haven’t played the first two seasons to come in and get up to speed really quickly. But it definitely respects, honors and facilitates all of the various end points that Season 2 had.”
One of the problems with Season 1, however, is that it didn’t use the same cloud save as Season 2 did. Telltale promises ”we’re going to have a solution for everybody that we’re not talking about it yet.”
Of course, the season question everyone has is: will Clementine be the protagonist? Telltale’s answer is a firm “maybe”. Expect more answers at Comic Con International later this Summer in San Diego.
