Activision haven’t released a map editor for a Call of Duty game since the release of World at War back in 2008. Thankfully that’s about to change, as the planned mod tools for Black Ops 3 will soon enter the closed alpha test stage.
The news has been confirmed by a tweet from Treyarch’s development director, who said: “Last time we released our map editor was cod:waw. It has changed a lot in 8 years. Modtools closed alpha is right around the corner.”

Looking for the best Call of Duty: World at War Mods? Our extensive Library should have everything you need.
While we don’t know how long it will be until everyone can get access to the mod tools, or if there’s a way people can test them out in advanced with the alpha, it’s still good to see that Activision are at least working on tools for the game. We’ll look forward to seeing what the community can make with them.
We’ve contacted Activision to see if there’s a way for people to sign-up to test out the tools, so if we hear anything we’ll let you know.
