Northgard sounds pretty cool, but its teaser trailer was just that: a teaser. We know you’ll take control of a band of vikings settling in new lands in the frozen north, but just what does that look like in practice? Thankfully, a bit of gameplay footage came out of Gamescom, letting us know what to expect.
It looks like a lot of gathering resources, building structures, and recruiting units, which is certainly a good thing if you’re a fan of the Settlers or just turtling in RTS titles. The video shows off only a brief bit of combat, and it seems to be a mostly hands-off affair with your recruited warriors doing battle with invaders automatically. The focus is squarely on the building.
There are already tons of great independent games out there. We just happen to have a list of the best indie games on PC!
You’ll also do battle with dire wolves and undead warriors, and according to the video above, even a dragon or two, conquering the land with a combination of force and economic expansion. Northgard is the latest from Shiro Games, best known for their pair of walks down role-playing memory lane with Evoland and Evoland 2.
Northgard doesn’t yet have a release date, but the developers say it will be available soon on PC.
