Teku Studios has announced that their Kickstarter funded adventure game Candle will be published by Daedelic Entertainment. The publisher will be taking care of the physical distribution of the game, and will enable the developer to localize the game in Portuguese and Russian.
Getting Daedelic to publish their game also opened other doors as well. ”For instance, we really had trouble getting Candle into GOG, unfortunately. They are very exclusive (i.e. picky) when choosing the games they sell, but now thanks to Daedalic it will be a piece of cake,” stated the developer in a Kickstarter update. ”So for all those who asked us about the GOG version (many of you, actually), fear not! You’ll be able to get the game there as well.” Daedelic is also aiding Teku with its final QA work.
Candle is a hand-drawn 2D adventure game that Teku states was inspired by such titles as ”Out of This World or Flashback, and the gameplay mechanics of classic platformer adventures like Abe’s Oddysee and Abe’s Exoddus, or Heart of Darkness.”
The story revolves around Teku, a shaman pupil who sets out to rescue the survivors of an attack on his village by the rival tribe of Atipax. ”During his adventures to rescue the survivors he will unveil the long forgotten truth about his past.” However, instead of a hand, he has a torch, one that he can not allow to be extinguished at any cost. The torch also serves as a gameplay mechanic, serving as the key to solve many of the puzzles in the game.
Candle will be available on digital distribution including Steam and GOG on the 14th April, 2016. Retail release will be later this year.
