Insomniac Games has revealed its latest game, an underwater submarine Metroidvania sidescroller, Song of the Deep. The game has been announced for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and will be released sometime this Summer for $14.99. The game is unusual from a market standpoint because it’s being published by brick-and-mortar retailer GameStop - as a digital title, no less.
According to the studio, the game is a labor of love that was inspired by the daughter of Insomniac’s Brian Hastings, with ”a simple and compelling message: no matter who you are, you have the ability to overcome adversity when you don’t give up.”
The story revolves around Merryn, whose father never returned from a fishing trip. When she experiences a dream that shows her father trapped under the sea, she builds a small sub from space parts and goes on a rescue mission to save him. During her voyage, she makes friends and discovers lost civilizations and ruins.
